The Daily Simmer extension saves the recipe on the page you are reading, or a link you right-click, to your recipe library without copying and pasting the link. It works in Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox on a computer. You need a Daily Simmer account, and the free plan is enough.
Add it to your browser
Add it from your browser’s extension store: search for Daily Simmer in the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, or Firefox Add-ons. Firefox needs version 140 or later. When the extension is added, a welcome page opens on dailysimmer.com with the next steps.
Pin the button
Browsers tuck new extensions away, so pin Daily Simmer to keep its button next to the address bar:
- Chrome: select Extensions, the puzzle piece next to the address bar, then select the pin beside Daily Simmer.
- Edge: select Extensions, the puzzle piece next to the address bar, then select the eye beside Daily Simmer.
- Firefox: select Extensions, the puzzle piece in the toolbar, then open the menu beside Daily Simmer and choose Pin to Toolbar.
Save a recipe
There are three ways to save:
- The button: select Daily Simmer in the toolbar, then Save this page.
- Right-click: on a page or a link, choose Save to Daily Simmer. On a link, it saves the page the link points to without opening it.
- The keyboard: press Alt+Shift+D to save the page you are on. On a Mac, Alt is the Option key.
Saving works on recipe websites and on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube posts. It follows the same Basic Import and Smart Import rules as pasting the link into Daily Simmer, described in Import a recipe from a link. Bringing in a post or video counts toward your AI usage.
Connect your account
Until you connect, each save opens Daily Simmer in a new tab and imports the recipe there. Sign in first if Daily Simmer asks you to.
Connect once and you can save without leaving the page:
- Select Daily Simmer in the toolbar, then Connect your account.
- A Daily Simmer window opens. Sign in if you need to, then choose Allow access.
- The extension shows your account at the top: your picture, or your initial, and your name.
Now a save stays in the extension. It shows the recipe coming in, and you can close it and keep browsing while the import continues. When the recipe is ready, open the extension again and choose Open recipe, or find it in your library.
If you pinned Daily Simmer to the toolbar, its button follows the save too: it shows … while the recipe comes in, ✓ when it’s ready, and ! when the save needs you.
To log out, select Daily Simmer in the toolbar, select your account at the top, then choose Log out. You can also disconnect it in Settings > Connected apps, where it is listed with your browser and when it was last used. Logging out or disconnecting does not change your recipes.
What the extension sends
When you save, the extension sends Daily Simmer the address of the page or link you chose, your browser’s name, and the extension’s version. If you connect your account, the extension keeps the sign-in tokens Daily Simmer issues for that connection and sends them only to Daily Simmer. While your account is connected, it also receives your account name and profile picture from Daily Simmer each time you open it, to show which account is connected. It keeps them only in the browser’s session storage, which is cleared when you log out, when the connection ends, and when the browser closes, and your browser loads the picture from the sign-in provider that stores it for Daily Simmer, as it does on dailysimmer.com. It does not read the page’s content, and it runs no script on sites other than dailysimmer.com. On dailysimmer.com it tells the page which browser and extension version are installed, so the site knows the extension is there and stops suggesting it.
When you remove the extension, a Daily Simmer page opens that is told only your browser’s name and the extension’s version. It asks why you removed it, and answering is up to you. Removing the extension does not end its connection to your account; to end it too, choose Disconnect in Settings > Connected apps.

If something goes wrong
“This page can’t be saved.” The extension saves web pages, so browser pages such as a new tab or settings cannot be saved. Open the recipe’s page and try again.
Alt+Shift+D does nothing. Another extension or the browser may already use that shortcut. Choose a different one in your browser’s shortcut settings: chrome://extensions/shortcuts in Chrome, edge://extensions/shortcuts in Edge, or in Firefox, the gear menu on the Add-ons Manager page and Manage Extension Shortcuts. The button and right-click still work.
“Daily Simmer couldn’t connect.” The Daily Simmer window was closed before you chose Allow access, or the connection did not finish. Choose Connect your account again.
“Your account isn’t connected anymore.” The connection was ended in Settings, or it lapsed after a long time without use. Choose Connect again. Imports you already started keep going in Daily Simmer.
No recipe came back. Daily Simmer shows what went wrong and what you can try next, the same way it does for a pasted link. See If no recipe comes back. Private posts and pages behind a login or paywall cannot be read.
On your phone
Browser extensions are for computers. On a phone, copy the recipe’s link and paste it into Daily Simmer with Add recipe. If you use the Daily Simmer app on your phone, you can share a recipe page or post straight to it: choose Share where you found the recipe, then Daily Simmer.
